SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 23-year-old woman walking in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood early Thursday fought off a would-be kidnapper, who was arrested a short time later, along with a second young man, police said.

The woman was walking in the 3700 block of National Avenue around 3:15 a.m. when a passenger in a baby blue-colored van called out to woman, then got out of the vehicle and grabbed her, according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

The woman fought to free herself, throwing her purse at the would-be kidnapper before running away, the sergeant said.

A short time later, officers spotted a baby blue-colored van parked in the 1000 block of South 41st Street and detained two men seen walking away from the vehicle.

The woman identified one of the men as the man who grabbed her, Battrick said. He was identified as Adan Espinoza, 25. Espinoza and the suspected driver of the van -- 23-year-old Israel Morales -- were both arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.
