San Diego Mojo are building momentum in team's first season in pro volleyball league

San Diego's newest professional volleyball team is laying the foundation for the future.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Mojo are one of only 7 teams in the first major league professional volleyball association in the U.S.

After stumbling out of the gate in their first season in the Pro Volleyball Federation, the San Diego Mojo have caught fire and found their stride in the 2024 season. The team currently has a 5-8 record and sits in 5th place in the league.

Now, they are looking to make a push for the postseason.  Mojo Outside hitter Kendra Dahlke, a graduate of Fallbrook High School who grew up in Bonsall, sat down with CBS's Marcus Greaves to discuss the excitement of the new team, playing in Viejas arena on the San Diego State campus, and how she hopes this franchise can continue to grow their fanbase in the community.

The San Diego Mojo franchise was announced in November 2023 as one of seven teams in the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF), the first major league professional volleyball association in the U.S.  The ownership group includes 5-time Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings. Led by head coach and three-time Olympian Tayyiba Haneef-Park, the Mojo opened their inaugural home season in February 2024.

The league includes seven teams each playing 24 matches, 12 at home and 12 on the road. The season will culminate in mid-May with a four-team championship weekend.

The league already has expansion plans for the 2025 season.  So far, Dallas, Indianapolis and Kansas City have been announced as new teams that will join the initial seven with the potential for more to be announced soon.
