Broken water line floods rooms at W Hotel

Workers and guests at The W Hotel in downtown San Diego is dealing with a wet mess Monday night.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Cleanup is underway at the W Hotel downtown after a broken water line flooded several rooms.

Firefighters say around 8:30 p.m. Monday, an air conditioning pipe burst causing an overflow of water to flood the third and lower floors at the W Hotel at 421 W. B Street.

A spokesperson for the hotel says guests were not evacuated but they could leave and stay at the Westin or U.S. Grant. New guests or guests that had not checked in were not allowed to check in were put up in the Westin or U.S. Grant.

One guest says she wasn't forced to leave but didn't feel staying there for the night.

“When you go down to first and second level you start seeing water through the walls, they have towels and cloths so you don't slip. They have a couple of elevators open,” said guest Joyce Baghdassarain. “There is water all over coming through the ceiling, through the walls, through the light fixtures, so it's not safe."

No word on damages. The cause of the break is under investigation.
