Shop Local 2023 | Celebrating San Diego Black-Owned Businesses

CBS 8 features businesses across San Diego County that are Black-owned and operated.

SAN DIEGO — There are many Black-owned businesses across San Diego County that will be featured and highlighted on CBS 8 that are open and need support during this post pandemic time. It is important to businesses across all industries that the community considers shopping local in San Diego.

Rhythm's Chicken & Waffles

Rhythm's Chicken & Waffles is a family-run business. They were on the "Fresh, Fried and Crispy" Netflix series. The restaurant is located in Pacific Beach.

Bliss Tea and Treats

Bliss Tea & Treats specializes in an authentic tea time experience. They offer a wide range of artisan teas, served hot or iced, with tea time treats.  They are located in Oceanside on Mission Avenue.

HairXCash Studio

HairXCash Studio is a hair salon that specializes in  braids, wigs, extensions, and silk presses. The studio is located in Rolando Village.

Fuel Thy Cells

Fuel Thy Cells is a juice bar that puts sea moss in their drinks. Fuel Thy Cells is on University Avenue in Rolando Village.

Life of Liberty

Life of Liberty is a program for adults with developmental disabilities. Their goal is to help people live independently.

Shore Shot Shooting Simulator

Shore Shot Shooting Simulator is a firearm training simulator in Oceanside. They offer a wide variety services including simulated scenarios.

The Mental Bar

The Mental Bar sells CBD infused coffee and tea. Their goal is to strive for wellness in the community. The shop is on Imperial Avenue in Encanto.

Ali's Chicken and Waffles

Ali's Chicken and Waffles serves a halal version of the dish. They also serve burritos and sandwiches. The restaurant has two locations, one in City Heights and one on 6th Avenue in Downtown.

Rose Reggae

Rose Reggae is a shop that sells Jamaican items like African woven baskets. They are located in Normal Heights.

Asmara Café

Asmara Café serves Ethiopian food and coffee. The café is located in City Heights.

Honeycomb Design and Construction

Honeycomb Design and Construction is a San Diego based renovation company that does remodels from start to finish. The owner once hosted a HGTV show.


Bridget's Essence of Beauty

Bridget's Essence of Beauty is store that specializes in wig-making in Kearny Mesa. The owner has made wigs for the show "How to get away with Murder."

Incremental Fitness

Incremental Fitness is a gym located in Morena. The gym trains people ages 50 and up so they can live healthy lives.

Chula Vista Brewery

Chula Vista Brewery is a craft beer brewery. They opened up a new location in Eastlake. The original is located on 3rd avenue.

Blu Temple Cigar & Wine Company

Blu Temple Cigar & Wine Company is a cigar and wine bar that opened 2 months ago in Mission Valley. They have karaoke nights on Thursdays.

My Space & Early Learning Time

My Space & Early Learning Time is a childcare center located in Lemon Grove. They provide classroom spaces and care for children up to 6 years old.


I-Que BBQ in La Mesa started as a catering business then opened a storefront two years ago. They serve classics like brisket, fried chicken and baked beans! They are open on Broadway Lane from Thursday through Saturday. 

Louisiana Purchase

Louisiana Purchase is a Black-owned restaurant in North Park that serves authentic New Orleans food.

Enhanced Beauty

Enhanced Beauty in El Cajon is a Black-owned business that specializes in make-up and permanent make-up, lash extensions and hair styling.

Coop’s West Texas BBQ 

Coop’s West Texas BBQ is in Lemon Grove and this Black-owned restaurant serves brisket, pork, and jerk chicken which takes hours to prepare and cook.

Freshly Faded Barber + Shop

Freshly Faded Barber + Shop is a Black-owned barbershop located in the heart of North Park, San Diego.
