Escondido superintendent introduces "Framework for the Future" in local schools

This year, four schools in the Escondido Union School district are developing a redesign plan to empower students.

SAN DIEGO — This year, four schools in the Escondido Union School district are developing a redesign plan to empower students.

Escondido Union School District’s Superintendent Luis Rankins-Ibarra is spearheading an innovative initiative known as the "Framework for the Future" aimed at modernizing education practices with local schools.

“We've adopted a learning model that really talks about personalization of learning for our students," said Superintendent Rankins-Ibarra.

North Broadway Elementary School is one of the schools included in the redesign, and Principal Cherry Moore is on the district's redesign team.

“The framework gives us a guiding light to really reach some outcomes that our students really need for 21st century learning," said Moore.

Five learning initiatives

In order to address student’s evolving needs in a modern era, the framework focuses on five initiatives:

1. School redesign (which promotes learning outcomes)

2. Learning model implementation

3. Maximized educator collaboration time

4. Authentic learning experiences

5. Preparing learners for future opportunities

Due to the growing Hispanic and Latino student population, the initiative also underscores a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with plans to implement programs that support students from all background and abilities.

Principal Moore said she will present her ideas to the rest of the design team in April and that it will be an ongoing process.

“This is an incredible opportunity," Moore said.

As Superintendent Rankins-Ibarra looks ahead, he envisions this will be a catalyst for student success district wide.

“We're talking about connecting students to careers, future careers, exploring all the things that are possible for the students at an early age," said Superintendent Rankins-Ibarra.
