SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Derek Jaeger is a young, hard-working entrepreneur with a deep, dark family secret.
"My parents were awful cooks, terrible," he said.
So Derek went to the University of Arizona, got a degree in nutrition, moved to San Diego with a college buddy and began baking cookies.
"We started at farmers markets, that's how we really got our foot in the door here in town," Derek said.
Today they still sell at La Jolla and Hillcrest farmers markets, but do the bulk of their business online, and business is booming.
"We have over 950 flavors. Anything anybody thinks of, we can turn into a cookie," Derek said.
The Cravory has taken baking to a whole other level.
"All of our cookies are hand-rolled. All of them have the highest quality ingredients,
"Red velvet is our top seller. It is just decadence in a cookie. It's white chocolate, semi-sweet chips, cream cheese swirls and it's got all the components of a red velvet cupcake
At The Cravory, cookies aren't just for dessert anymore.
"This is our pancakes and bacon, and it's our fourth most popular cookie," Derek said.
And they're not just for kids.
"This is one of our cool ones -- pinot noir and goat cheese cookie with salted caramel and a little bit of sea salt on top," Derek said.
At The Cravory, when it comes to cookies, anything goes.
"This is our lemon cherry basil, it's great with a glass of white wine," Derek said.
At this moment, hard-working entrepreneur Derek Jaeger's cell phone is ringing. It's his parents, and they're not happy with his comments about her cooking. Perhaps he can soothe it over with a batch of The Cravory's creations.
