One man dead after police shooting in National City

National City PD said the man turned and started running at them with a machete before they shot him.

NATIONAL CITY, Calif — Investigators were on scene in National City near 33rd Street and Hoover Avenue, after receiving an initial call that came in around 4:30 Friday morning about a man trying to break into a self-store locker with a large knife.

Police say when they arrived, they initially did not see the man, but a short distance away they encountered a man with a machete that matched the description.

National City police say the man was uncooperative, so they eventually fired their taser which was not effective in subduing the man.
