More than 6,000 volunteers help with Creek to Bay Cleanup

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - An estimated 6,000 people came together Saturday morning to take part in the 14th annual Creek to Bay Cleanup hosted by Earth 8 and I love a Clean San Diego.

CBS News 8's Heather Myers kicked off the event at Mountain View Park, which was just 1 of 110 cleanup sites throughout the county.

Organizers say the event is about more than just helping out the environment.

"In addition to cleaning up around the county we feel it's important that volunteers leave with a sense of pride that they've made San Diego cleaner and they've really made a difference," said Pauline Martinson, Executive Director, I Love a Clean San Diego.

More than 150,000 pounds of trash were removed countywide.

Some of the interesting items that were found include a wedding dress, a hot tub and a family of kittens.
