Opening day for Lane Field Park

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - City officials are calling it a home run. Monday was opening day at Lane Field Park.

San Diego's newest waterfront park is at the corner of West Broadway and North Harbor Drive.

It's the site of the original baseball field used by the Padres from 1936 to 1957, when the team played in the Pacific Coast League.

On hand Monday was a former Padre who played in the very last game at Lane Field.

"I wish all the best for everyone involved in the development of this park and to all the people of San Diego for supporting the project," former Padre Rudy Regalado said.

The park includes a home plate and pitcher's mound. There's also a special tribute to Padres legend Ted Williams.
