San Diego FC Chrome Ball tour makes a stop in Chula Vista

Hundreds of people in Chula Vista enjoyed a day full of soccer, activities and performances in San Diego FC’s Chrome Ball Tour.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — At the sound of Mariachi Internacional San Diego the community enjoyed a day full of soccer, culture and activities along Third Avenue in Chula Vista for San Diego FC’s 2024 Chrome Ball tour

“Our mission is to introduce ourselves and celebrate the culture that’s already been there, the art that’s been there and the passion for futbol,” San Diego FC EVP of Club Operations Ricardo Campos said. 

Fans can expect to see San Diego FC play at Snapdragon stadium in 2025. The team is already building a fan base with merchandise like stuffed animals and clothing. It's selling fast. 

“Something that we’ve all been waiting for, just waiting when will the day come that finally San Diego would have a soccer team inside the MLS,” San Diego FC Chrome Ball Tour attendee Alfredo Loera said. 

The Major Leagues soccer’s newest team represents much more than just games for the Hispanic community, It's about culture and tradition.

“It means a lot honestly, it’s a heritage, it's one of those things where it’s a lifestyle,” San Diego FC Chrome Ball Tour attendee Ulisses Barajas said. 

There are speculations among soccer fans that Mexican soccer player Hirving Chucky Lozano could be coming to San Diego. 

“I did hear what…they said something about Chuky Lozano 12 million dollars to release him from PSV and then 9 million a year which would be the second highest payed behind Leonel Messi,” Barajas said. 

CBS 8 spoke to San Diego FC and they said they have not officially announced any signings yet. Ricardo Campos said the team has gained heavy interest from all levels.  

“There's interest from all levels, incredible athletes, incredible people that want to get involved with the club locally and internationally,” Campos said. 

Ricardo Campos said the team will be making some announcements in the coming months.
