Kellen Winslow II back in San Diego jail accused of lewd conduct

Kellen Winslow II was back in jail on Monday accused of lewd conduct while out on bail, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) — A readiness conference was held Tuesday for ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II, who is charged with raping two women in Encinitas last year and raping an unconscious teenager in 2003.

Winslow was back in jail as of Monday and being held without bail accused of lewd conduct while out on bail, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. According to the newspaper, prosecutors have brought new charges against the former NFL player and son of Chargers great Kellen Winslow.

News 8 confirmed Monday night that Winslow was in custody on a no-bond hold.

On Tuesday, Winslow's defense attorneys asked the court to drop four counts arguing that there wasn't enough evidence to show that Winslow was the perpetrator. The judge decided to keep three of the counts related to the rape allegations but dropped a fourth related to kidnapping charges.

Winslow, who had been out of custody on $2 million bail in connection with his felony case, is now accused of touching himself and asking a 77-year-old woman if she "liked it" on Feb. 13, then groping her while she was in a hot tub at the same gym on Feb. 22, according to police and prosecutors.

According to reports, 35-year-old Winslow pleaded not guilty to the new charges – all misdemeanors – and was last week ordered to remain on house arrest. However, on Monday Vista Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman ordered Winslow to be jailed without bail, according to the U-T.

Winslow's upcoming felony trial, which could begin as soon as next month, involves allegations that he raped a 17-year-old girl in 2003 at a home in Scripps Ranch; lured a 54-year-old transient -- who was hitchhiking -- into his Hummer for a ride, then raped her on March 17, 2018; and that he raped a 58- year-old homeless woman on May 13, 2018, then threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

Winslow II grew up in San Diego and attended the University of Miami. He played for four NFL teams between 2004 and 2013.

The defendant faces life in prison if convicted.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story indicated that Winslow was eligible for bail, however according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department he is not eligible for release at this time.
