SAN DIEGO — A new report has ranked San Diego as the #1 most expensive city to live in the United States.

The report published by U.S. News and World Report based the rankings on median gross rent, annual housing costs in the city and other high fees associated with homeownership. Other metrics that the report examined include San Diego's inflation rate, cost of gas and other costs associated with living in America's Finest City.

Seven of the ten cities ranked in the report are located in California.

"Living in San Diego is not particularly affordable. Home prices are considerably higher than the national median sale price," the report reads. "San Diegans are willing to pay these elevated prices, though, often referring to the cost-of-living differences as the "sunshine tax," or the price of enjoying a year-round temperate climate."
