SAN DIEGO — San Diego got battered with more rain Tuesday, causing issues throughout the county, including in the Tijuana River Valley.
Around Tuesday at 1:00 a.m. lifeguards from San Diego Fire and Rescue recovered a body found floating near Dairy Mart Road and Camino De La Plaza.
Early reports from U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicate the person may have been a migrant crossing the border with a group of other migrants when he drowned.
"The victim was had been floating face down for over an hour and had not moved positions per reports given by Border Patrol, who were here initially," said Kyle Kutze, SDFD Battalion Chief.
This storm caused the Tijuana River to rise and flood over in several areas, leading to at least a half dozen road closures, including along Monument and Hollister.
Fabian Gonzalez drove partially through one of the closures, saying he had to check on Pony Land, a horse ranch his friend owns.
“It was bad. The back part is like six inches more and the water is gonna come through the back part," said Gonzalez.
When asked how the horses are, Gonzalez said most of them were moved prior to the storm.
The Humane Society drove around surveying the area Tuesday.
While they did not perform any rescues, they asked people in need of help to reach out.
Nearby resident Dustin Gregg also drove around the flooded area Tuesday, offering assistance to stranded drivers.
“I've seen cars get stuck out there before and I came out here to see if anybody was stuck and I got a tow strap, maybe give them a hand,” said Gregg.
Fortunately, Gregg did not run into any drivers who needed help.
Aside from the flooding concerns, the storm also brought a new layer of sewage to the Tijuana River.
Off of Dairy Mart Road, there’s a pile of trash so big, it stretches well beyond the length of a football field.
“It would be a good time to start a clean-up crew afterwards and get it all sorted out. We'd all appreciate that over here,” said Gregg.
