CBS 8 is Working for You to find out whether there was poison sprinkled across the beach or if the unfortunate dog death is an isolated incident.

SAN DIEGO — A Mission Valley resident posted to the Nextdoor app saying someone has sprinkled rat poison throughout Fiesta Island Dog Park and it killed her dog. People throughout San Diego County soon took to social media, spreading a warning for all dog owners to avoid the area.

CBS 8 is Working for You to find out whether there is poison sprinkled across the beach or if the unfortunate dog death is an isolated incident.

Nina Thompson with San Diego Humane Society said they are aware of the posts circulating on social media and have received calls from concerned community members.

"As of now, our Humane Law Enforcement Dispatch has not received any reports of dogs becoming sick as a result of poisoning on Fiesta Island. We urge individuals with direct information regarding the alleged incidents to call us at 619-299-7012 (press 1 for Dispatch)," she said in a statement.

CBS 8 also reached out to the City of San Diego. A spokesperson with the city said the District Manager of Mission Bay Park inspected the area along with other Parks and Recreational staff searched the area and said no evidence of poison was found.

In a statement to CBS 8, a city spokesperson said:

"The Parks and Recreation Department was notified yesterday of social media posts concerning the possible presence of poison in the Fiesta Island dog off-leash area.

Immediately after receiving this notification, various Parks and Recreation Department staff inspected the site looking for any signs of poison, as well as the presence of foreign objects. Nothing was found.

It is important to note that the City of San Diego does not apply pesticides in dog off-leash areas.

Staff will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that Fiesta Island remains a safe and welcoming place for all."
