Search continues for suspect who sexually assaulted little girl while sleeping

Police say early Thursday morning, the man entered through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted a girl who was sleeping. They spent hours collecting evidence.

SAN DIEGO — The search continues for the man accused of entering a home through an open door and sexually assaulting a little girl, asleep in her bed around 1:45 a.m. Thursday.

Neighbors on Wellington Street in San Diego's Linda Vista neighborhood remain on high alert.

San Diego Police are hoping video surveillance can help crack this case.

"We mostly feel safe around the neighborhood, so this caught us off guard," Joseph Pollema said, who lives nearby.

Hannah Daniel, "Especially in like a military community, you wouldn't expect something like that to happen."

Daniel lives just a few doors down. Her cameras captured a man riding a bike quickly around 2 a.m.

"I never see anyone riding a bike, especially at that hour of the day and it was literally five minutes after it happened," she said. "I hope he gets caught. That little girl, poor thing. I have a six year old son, so I can't. I really can't even imagine."

The subject is described as a Caucasian or Hispanic male adult, approximately 5’8” or 5’9” and weighing between 160 to 180 pounds.

"It definitely scares me, like last night, I felt on edge going to sleep," Daniel said.

Police say early Thursday morning the man entered through an unlocked door and sexually assaulted a girl who was sleeping. They spent hours collecting evidence.

"Like how many doors did this person try, before he came in? We have a lock on our gate, but it's unsettling. Makes me wonder, because there's a school nearby, was he watching and waiting for his opportunity?" Daniel said.

It has made this kid friendly, military community, on Wellington Street more vigilant.

"It brings more of an alert, so obviously we're checking doors and windows. She was five years old, from my understanding, so it's shocking," Pollema said.
