Seven-story, 92-unit residential building proposed for the heart of North Park

The residential development is proposed near the North Park sign at the site of the Odd Fellows building.

SAN DIEGO — A seven-story residential and commercial development is now proposed in the heart of North Park, next to the famous North Park sign at 2906 and 2912 University Avenue where the historic Odd Fellows Building now sits.

According to the city of San Diego, an application was submitted and posted to the city's website on December 18, 2023 for a permit to build a seven-story mixed-use multi-family residential development with a total of 92 units, 16 of which will be designated as affordable.

The application states the builders will preserve and restore the historic facades of the two neighboring buildings.

According to the North Park Main Street, "North Park Magical History Tour" the building is known as the Odd Fellows Building and was built in 1929.

In addition to preserving the front of the building, the developer will demolish the remainder of 2906 University as well as raze the neighboring building at 2912 University to build the 92-unit building with a subterranean parking garage that will have a total of 23 parking spaces that will sit on 0.34 acres.

If approved, the building at 2906 University will undoubtedly become one of the most significant changes to date.

In October 2021, CBS 8 dug through the archives to see the changes that North Park has experienced over the years.
