Students worry over College Area prowlers peeping in windows

Students living near campus are concerned over prowlers peeping into girl's windows in the area.

SAN DIEGO — People living minutes away from San Diego State University in the College Area are concerned after what they said is an ongoing issue.

Katie Chrisman is one of seven people who share a house with four people living in a neighborhood in the College Area.

“We’ve had multiple problems in the last month of people running through our side gate getting into our backyard and even into the canyon,” Chrisman said.

On Wednesday, Chrisman was celebrating ‘Galantines’ when said she saw police enter her side gate towards her backyard.

“found out that there's this one person that's been coming and sneaking into our backyard and checking out our backhouse and looking into the backhouse windows,” Chrisman said.

San Diego Police said people living there shared ring footage from the first time that happened just days before. The footage helped police match the description to Ilmer Cortez Diaz.

“They were looking through bedroom windows which is pretty alarming and as a girl something that is pretty scary in the college area as well,” Chrisman said.

Police said Cortez-Diaz was arrested on two counts of peeping and obstructing/resisting a peace officer. The San Diego County District Attorney’s office informed CBS 8 that Cortez-Diaz bailed out and his return date is March 28 in misdemeanor arraignment court.

“It eases my anxiety a little bit but this is a greater issue and there are bigger solutions that need to be,” Chrisman said.

Meanwhile, Police still need the community's help in finding another man they said was spotted watching a woman shower through a window on Dorothy Drive.
