Husband and wife team Kate and Bob Carpenter aim to make Sunny Side's customers feel like guests in their own kitchen. They have curated an authentic, vintage vibe with mismatched chairs and homemade vegan soups. As a former food writer, Kate also posts regular blurbs on featured dishes at the restaurant such as their vegan panini. CBS 8 featured these barn-burning paninis back in 2021.
Crafted Greens in El Cajon ranked #16
This farm-to-table restaurant makes a triumphant return in 2024 after appearing on Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in 2019 list. The restaurant prides themselves on creating an authentic flavor for each dish using honest and healthy food. According to Yelp, one of the most popular dishes is a Free Range Chicken Club, filled with arugula, slow-roasted tomatoes, bacon, and white cheddar.
Rosemarie's Burgers in San Diego ranked #40
Bay Park neighbors may know Rosemarie's Burgers food truck, but the owner — who's also an Army veteran — recently opened a brick-and-mortar gastropub in Mission Beach. The mobile kitchen is best known for its sliders, with customer's choice of wagyu beef, fried chicken, shrimp or eggplant.
Peace Pies in San Diego ranked #53
This Bohemian-style vegan restaurant is committed to only serving raw foods that are gluten and soy-free. Peace Pies believes in practicing a strict zero-waste policy, which means they compost and use earth-friendly packaging for their orders. The regionally sourced ingredients are used to cook up pies, pizzas, salads, wraps, entrees, dried goods, desserts and chocolates.
